Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about diesel repair, the platforms we service, and how we work — pricing, scheduling, warranty, and the most-asked questions about Power Stroke, Cummins, and Duramax issues.

Common questions we get from customers — about how we work, pricing, the platforms we service, and the most-asked questions about specific diesel issues. For deeper technical questions on specific codes or symptoms, see our research library.

How we work

What platforms do you service?
Primarily diesel — Ford Power Stroke, Cummins, and Duramax engines are the core of the shop. We also work on 3/4-ton (2500/F-250) and 1-ton (3500/F-350) gas trucks when the work is a fit for our bay and tooling. Diesel is where we specialize; heavier gas trucks are a natural adjacent fit. Call us with your specific truck and what it’s doing and we’ll tell you honestly whether we’re the right shop.

What does a diagnostic visit involve?
Our diagnosis fee is $235 out the door, and it includes a complimentary photo-and-video 35-point basic inspection — so you get a documented look at your truck’s condition, not just a verbal summary. Want a more thorough once-over? Upgrade to a 100-point inspection for $50 more. Whatever we find shapes the written estimate, which we walk through with you before any work starts.

Do you provide written estimates?
Yes. After diagnosis we send a detailed written breakdown — parts, labor, and any contingencies we’ve identified. You approve before any work starts. No surprise charges at pickup.

What’s your shop rate?
Starting at $215/hour. Posted, consistent, no hidden surcharges. Final invoice depends on the specific repair — parts, labor hours, and any additional findings from diagnostic work.

Do you warranty your work?
Yes — parts carry manufacturer warranty (or our warranty on shop-installed parts where applicable), and we stand behind our workmanship. Specific warranty terms vary by component; we cover the relevant details when we quote the repair.

Can you take care of fleet vehicles?
Yes. We work with several local fleet operators and can structure scheduled maintenance around your operational windows. Call us to discuss our fleet maintenance offerings for your fleet.

Do you offer rentals while my truck is in the shop?
Yes — see our Rental Trucks page for details, requirements, and pricing. Available to both service and non-service clients.

Pricing and payment

Do you accept insurance claims?
Yes, when applicable. Diesel fuel system contamination, vandalism, and bad-fuel claims are often covered — we diagnose, document the cause, and structure the quote to work with your insurer. Coverage depends on your policy and the cause of the damage, so the first step is usually a conversation about what happened. See our CP4 Pump Failure Insurance page for specific scenarios we’ve handled.

Power Stroke FAQs

How serious is a CP4 pump failure on my 6.7L?
Very. When the CP4 fails, it sends metal shavings through the entire fuel system — injectors, lines, sensors. The fix is usually full fuel system replacement, which is a major repair. The proven preventative is a DCR conversion before the CP4 fails. See our CP4 Pump Failure article for the full picture.

What’s the deal with the 6.0L Power Stroke head gaskets?
The 6.0L head gaskets are a known weak point, and most failures we see trace back to either a failed oil cooler or a failed EGR cooler that wasn’t caught in time. Catching the cooler issue early prevents the cascade into a head gasket job.

My 6.7L is in limp mode — what should I do?
Bring it in. Limp mode usually means an after-treatment system code (DPF, DEF heater, etc.) that’s protecting the engine. The truck is operable but progressively limited — see our DEF Tank Heater article for the speed-cascade specifics on P20BA codes.

My 6.4L has reduced power — DPF clogged?
Often. See our 6.4L Clogged DPF article for the diagnostic and repair scope.

Duramax FAQs

My LB7 is hard-starting — is it the injectors?
Possibly, but not necessarily. LB7 P0193 codes can be as simple as a fuel filter and prime, or as involved as a full injector job. See our LB7 P0193 article for the diagnostic sequence we use.

Why does my LLY keep eating water pumps?
Because the water pump usually isn’t the actual problem. See our LLY Water Pump Failure article — it’s almost always upstream pressure from a failed EGR cooler, blown head gasket, or faulty cap.

My LBZ is throwing P2563 — does the turbo need replacing?
Maybe, but check the simpler causes first. MAP/BARO sensor agreement, solenoid cleanliness, and oil pressure all need to be ruled out before pulling the turbo. See our LBZ P2563 article.

Cummins FAQs

Do you do Cummins transmission rebuilds?
Yes — 47RFE, 48RFE, and 68RFE rebuilds and upgrades are routine for us.

What about head gasket work on the 5.9L or 6.7L Cummins?
Yes. We do head gasket repairs on Cummins platforms with ARP studs as the standard recommendation.

Build / performance FAQs

Do you tune trucks in-house?
No — we don’t tune in-house. Diesel tuning is a specialized domain with real legal and reliability implications, and the shops that do it well do nothing else. What we do: talk through your performance goals honestly, handle the supporting hard-parts work that often accompanies a build (fuel system, turbo, cooling, transmission, driveline), and point you to tuners we’ve worked alongside when that’s the right next step.

Do you do emissions deletes?
No — we don’t do emissions deletes on street-driven trucks. Federal law is clear on this, and we’re not going to put the shop or you at risk. For off-road-only trucks we can discuss the conversation in person, but our posted position is that street-driven diesels stay emissions-compliant.

Lift kits — what brand should I get?
Depends on use case. We work with everything from Rough Country (entry tier) to Kelderman and Carli (premium). See our Lift Kits page and Brands We Use for the full conversation.

Wheels and tires — can you match online prices?
Usually yes. Dealer accounts with the major brands let us match or beat advertised online pricing. See our Wheels & Tires page.
